Lighting Design Concepts

The O’Hanlon Group provided lighting concepts on the following projects.

Bridgestone Arena Tower Lighting, Nashville, TN

OHG was enlisted to provide a lighting concepts for the 22-story tower atop the glass entry to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, home to the NHL Nashville Predators. Using limited design information, suggesting a sense of ascendance, OHG used the angled lines of the three vertical elements of the tower to create continuous lines of color-changing LED lighting, with the goal of adding to the Music City’s stock of iconic skyline forms, while also serving as a way-finding function for the Tennessee sports fan.

Walnut Street Bridge, Chattanooga, TN

When approached by the City of Chattanooga to develop a lighting concept for this iconic pedestrian bridge spanning the Tennessee River and connecting downtown with the North Shore, and thought to be “…the first non-military highway bridge across the Tennessee River.”, OHG proposed using the architectural lines of this truss bridge be delineated using color-changing ‘lines of light’, identifying the dynamic lighting possibilities for this beloved landmark.

Knoxville Museum of Art – North Garden Improvements

Working with the design team, OHG provided lighting design images for team and owner review, for this half acre garden and plaza overlooking the site of the 1982 World’s Fair. Color-changing LED below-grade luminaries are used to wash the terraced walkway and create a more welcoming exterior space.

Re-purposed Reception Hall, Bucks County, PA

As a part of a theatre restoration project, an adjacent space (formerly a bank lobby) was also renovated for use for a small reception room for use by major donors, as a small concert venue, and other varied fund-raising functions. We provided these images to the owner to suggest the lighting possibilities of this unique space. Utilizing below-grade color-changing LED luminaries to uplight the well-preserved Corinthian columns, the space takes on a different, more intimate ‘personality’ when color is introduced, providing contrast to the varied finishes. A Cooler (4000K) LED cove system was used to uplight the ‘Music-Making Angel’ mural at the far end of the barrel vaults ceiling. A single very narrow beam LED Downlight highlights the piano, while adjustable medium beam downlights highlight the various wall hangings.

Horse Racing Gallery & Reception Space, Fayette County, KY

The owner of this space, an avid thoroughbred horse racing fan, proposed to display an extensive collection of horse racing art, including a series of large triptychs in this multi-purpose space. OHG modeled the space applying specific textures based upon the architect’s suggestions, and suggested the use of LED track heads and recessed adjustable downlights to provide ‘pops’ of light on the triptychs and a ‘wash’ of lighting over the larger wall canvases. Further, a custom linear lighting ‘wing’ luminaire was proposed as an artistic color-changing pendant for events where higher levels of ambient light are required.
